Apple to Release New AirPods This Year, New AirPods Pro Next Year [Report]

Apple is planning to release new entry-level AirPods this year but won’t launch second generation AirPods Pro until next year, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The site reiterates the many leaks and rumors we’ve already heard about AirPods 3.

The new base AirPods will mark the first update to the product since March 2019 and will add a new design that mostly mirrors that of the AirPods Pro. The earbuds will come with a new case and shorter stems poking out of the bottom of each one.

For AirPods Pro, Apple is said to be working on updated motion sensors with a focus on fitness.

The AirPods Pro coming next year will be the first change to that product since October 2019 and will include updated motion sensors with a focus on fitness tracking, the people said, asking not to be named because the plans are private.

The company has reportedly tested a design for AirPods Pro that eliminates the stem, similar to the new Beats Studio Buds that leaked ahead of their release next month.

Finally, Bloomberg says Apple is not currently working on a new pair of AirPods Max headphones but has discussed introducing new color variations.
