Makena House | Uncrate, #Makena #House #Uncrate
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Makena House takes advantage of Maui’s dramatic landscape and coastal light. The home is situated on a sandy slope of the island, creating the illusion of a single-story structure. Its board-formed concrete exterior keeps a discreet profile from the street view, welcoming visitors with a perforated metal canopy that texturized the facade with a starry pattern. Once inside, the interior opens up to views of the shoreline courtesy of a glass and steel rear elevation. A network of wooden louvers provides an element of privacy while playfully interacting with the incoming sunlight. A palette of bleached cypress and teak conceived by Leverone Design develops a soft, natural atmosphere that complements the scenery and creates a neutral backdrop for the owner’s extensive art collection. In response to the harsh environment, ten-foot roof overhangs protect indoor and outdoor spaces from the intense rays and frequent storms.
