Volvo and Aurora Innovation — an autonomous driving technology company founded by former Google, Uber, and Tesla executives — have revealed a production-ready Class 8 semi developed for long-haul autonomous transportation. The truck is based on the new VNL, Volvo’s latest semi platform, festooned with an array of sensors, cameras, and software from Aurora for Level 4 autonomous operation. The trucks will be built at Volvo’s plant in Virginia, with plans to deploy 20 in 2024 and a further 100 in 2025.
