When Ferris Bueller convinced Cameron to take his father’s Ferrari 250 GT California Spider out for a day across Chicago in 1986, he called it “so choice.” Sixty-five years later, the market agrees. Among the most celebrated road cars ever built, the 250 GT SWB California Spider was produced in just 56 examples between 1960 and 1963, and chassis No. 2955 is the 26th example built. It carries a 3.0-liter Colombo V12 paired with a 94.5-inch short wheelbase for sharper handling than the long-wheelbase car it followed, four-wheel disc brakes, and Koni telescopic shocks, all clothed in coachwork by Scaglietti. Delivered new to Düsseldorf in September 1961, it was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show before passing through a Lebanese collector, several American enthusiasts, and eventually actor Kenneth Mars, who held on to it for three decades. Now finished in Blu Scuro over rosso leather with a silver hardtop, it carries Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification with matching numbers throughout and heads to auction with just 2,447 kilometers since its most recent restoration.
