Daniel Arsham, the New York artist whose “Eroded Cars” sculptures imagine automobiles as artifacts from a distant future, spent eight months in his private garage rebuilding a 1998 Porsche 993 into a driveable art piece he calls the 993A. The original 3.6-liter flat-six was blueprinted and expanded to 3.8 liters with Carrillo connecting rods and CNC-machined cylinder heads, backed by a custom ECU remap, a rebuilt G50 six-speed manual, and a bespoke KW suspension developed to Arsham’s spec. The exterior wears a Paint to Sample Vanilla Yellow, a color believed to have been applied to just one factory 993 Turbo S. German leather artisan Justin Placek executed the interior in triple-stitched green leather with body-colored seat backrests and custom Arsham Studio gauges. For an artist obsessed with relics, the last air-cooled 911 was an obvious place to start.
