AI is the buzzword of 2024. Apple is aiming to redefine it with the introduction of Apple Intelligence. Described as a “personal intelligence system”, it runs on-device across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It can understand and create language and images, powers new writing tools to rewrite, condense, and proofread, and powers a massively upgraded version of Siri. The latter better understands natural language and context, can take action inside apps, and has on-screen awareness. Private Cloud Compute, a series of private cloud intelligence models built using Apple Silicon servers, provides discreet off-device computing when a task requires more power than the device can provide. Should the task require a more broad range of information, ChatGPT integration will provide more options later this year. Apple Intelligence arrives with the supported OS releases this Fall.
