Doug DeMuro built Cars & Bids into one of the biggest enthusiast car auction sites around, and now he’s using it to sell one of his own cars: a 1999 Mercedes-Benz G500 Cabriolet he’s owned for seven years. Built by hand in Graz, Austria, it’s a genuine off-roader wearing a convertible top, keeping the G-Wagen’s full-time 4MATIC all-wheel drive, three locking differentials, and low-range transfer case even with the roof folded away. The G500 Cabriolet was never officially sold in the United States, and only around 2,600 were built worldwide over an 18-year production run. DeMuro’s example was originally sold in Europe, imported, and fully federalized, then went through California Air Resources Board certification, a step DeMuro believes only 10 to 12 imported Cabriolets have ever completed. Power comes from a naturally aspirated V8 making roughly 292 horsepower, run through a five-speed automatic. DeMuro added about 23,000 miles during his ownership, and the truck now shows roughly 101,500 miles total.
