In the annals of classic 4x4s, Volvo isn’t the first name that comes to mind. Beautiful, ultra-boxy, and ultra-safe wagons and semis are what usually come to mind, but there’s also the TP21 Sugga — a military-grade version of the combining Volvo trucks and the PV831 sedan. Introduced in the late 1930s, the PV800 series dominated Sweden’s taxi cab market for nearly two decades. Volvo repurposed the PV800 body and the chassis from its light trucks to create the TP21, which was used by the Swedish and Belgian armies during WWII up through the 1950s. This 1964 Sugga (Swedish for sow, a reference to the truck’s looks) was imported to Australia and has been in the ownership of the same family ever since. A 3.67-liter inline-six making 90 horsepower drives all four wheels via an unsynchronized four-speed manual transmission, and the rest of the truck is similarly spartan. Now highly collectible, this TP21 is up for auction via Collecting Cars.
