Seiko relaunched the beloved dive watch to celebrate the Seiko Samurai’s 20th anniversary with a few major updates. Officially called the Seiko Prospex SRPL13, this sturdy yet surprisingly compact aquatic watch features a stainless steel case and bracelet, a stark black dial, and Hardlex crystal. Overall, this watch is far less aggressive than its predecessors while being equally badass — and adaptable. It’s smaller (41.7mm now vs. 43+ in the past), less vertical, and far less angular, but much more tenable for everyday wear. That means it’s everything watch wearers came to love about the 2000s release refined for the current state of watches, which, as an industry, now leans smaller and not so gaudy. Inside, the watch runs on the entry-level caliber 4R35 with manual winding, a 41-hour power reserve, and a stop second-hand (hacking) function. Legible yet good-looking, the dial features a subtle date window at 4:30 and Lumibrite hands and indexes.
