The McLaren 570S GT4 track-only race car has been wildly successful across the globe, winning championships and more races than any GT car McLaren has ever built. Race cars are built to strict rule requirements, and McLaren wanted to find out what an unleashed 570S GT could do — and the answer is the 620R, a road-legal race car. The 620R starts with the 570S GT’s carbon-fiber Monocell II chassis tub. Lightweight adjustable dampers with stiffer springs, roll bars, and motor mounts are used, and specially-design aluminum control arms provide more aggressive suspension geometry. A braking system with components from the Senna gives massive stopping power to the 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, and the seven-speed transmission gets McLaren’s Inertial Push system for lightning-fast gear changes. The aero pack from the 570S GT is used, with a massive rear wing, active elements, and rooftop scoop that feeds a re-tuned V8 that now makes 610 horsepower. With a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds and true race car performance, the 620R could out-perform its track-only sibling.
