Hyundai Heritage Series Pony Restomod Coupe

Hyundai’s new Hyundai Motorstudio Busan design center opened with a stunning center-stage display — a restomodded first-generation Pony, the first car completely designed in-house by Hyundai. Designed by Italdesign Giugiaro, the Pony was the first car mass-produced in South Korea, and was produced from 1975 to 1990. The Pony at Hyundai Motorstudio Busan is radically different from the original — it has an electric drivetrain, updated LED lighting, and a redesigned interior. Outside, the Pony’s lines are largely unchanged, with the exception of the lights. Inside, however, is a thoroughly modern interior with a nixie tube dash display. While there are no plans for production, this design exercise is a reminder that even the simplest cars can have great design.
