In 1978, Gordon Murray’s Brabham BT46 “Fan Car” debuted at the Swedish Grand Prix. A fan inside the car drew air through the chassis, essentially sucking it to the road. Driven by Niki Lauda, the car won the race — the only race it would ever run. Over 40 years later, Murray’s purist T.50s uses a similar concept, and the new track-only Niki Lauda edition pays homage to the late three-time F1 World Champion. Over 200 pounds have been stripped from the already flyweight car, bringing weight down to 1,878 pounds. The Cosworth 3.9-liter V12 makes 66 more horsepower at 725, and the traditional six-speed manual has been replaced with a paddle-shifted transmission. 25 T.50s Niki Laudas will be made, with 15 cars already sold.
