Five of Ferrari’s most important cars of the modern era are crossing the block at the same auction hosted by RM Sotheby’s. The first is a 1984 288 GTO, the road-going homologation version of the 308 GT GTB. Powered by a 2.8 DOHC twin-turbo V8, the car is arguably Ferrari’s first supercar, with only 272 built. Next is a 1990 F40, the ’80s poster legend. The successor to the 288 GTO, the F40 celebrated Ferrari’s 40th anniversary and was Ferrari’s fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car. The F50 picked up where the F40 left off. This 1996 model is powered by a naturally aspirated V12 taken from Ferrari’s F1 program with styling heavily influenced by the F40. The Enzo was Ferrari’s love letter to itself, representing the peak of its technological prowess at the time and represented by this 2003 model. The extensive use of carbon fiber and a V12 make it a pivotal car in Ferrari’s history. Last is a 2015 LaFerrari — “the Ferrari”, definitively. The first full hybrid from Maranello, the car uses a 6.2-liter V12 and hybrid system to produce 950 total horsepower. The auction takes place the week before the F1 Grand Prix Canada at the collection’s home — a 17,000 exhibition space in Toronto.
