Ferrari is returning to the top rung of Le Mans for the first time in 50 years. The Italian marque will enter the 2023 LMDh class with the 499P, a name that evokes the winning sports prototypes of the ’60s and ’70s, the 250P and 330P. The 499P uses an all-new carbon fiber monocoque chassis powered by a twin-turbo V6, derived from the 296GTB road car. An electric motor at the front axle works with the V6 to form an all-wheel-drive system, with a maximum of 670 horsepower from both units. Power for the electric motor comes from a 900v battery that recharges through regenerative braking. The 499P will make its competitive debut in the World Endurance Championship on March 17, 2023, at the 1000 Miles of Sebring.
