Entire iPhone Lineup to Get LiDAR in 2021 [Report]
Apple will update its entire iPhone lineup with LiDAR in 2021, according to a new report from DigiTimes.
Apple has adopted dToF LiDAR scanner in iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro series, and is expected to apply the scanner technology to all its 2021 iPhone models, which will remain available with face ID sensors, the sources said.
The site reports that Sony has signed a three year contract with Apple to supply a new-generation near infrared (NIR) CIS with a single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array for a direct time of flight LiDAR scanner. Other handset vendors are expected to roll out dToF LiDAR in their devices in the first half of 2022.
