There are a number of companies working towards a new age of hypersonic flight. At the same time, a number of firms are trying to make air travel more sustainable. Destinus is doing both. Its Hypersonic Jet, currently under development, is set to use hydrogen for fuel, achieve velocities of more than 5 times the speed of sound, and reach far-off destinations in a matter of just 3-4 hours. With financial backing from Spain’s Ministry of Science, it’s already flown an early prototype, with flight campaigns for a new prototype, Destinus-3, expected to begin in 2024.
