The 904 helped cement Porsche’s reputation in endurance racing when it debuted in 1964. The flyweight car was powered by the most complex four-cylinder motor at the time, and its reliability and innovative construction — a fiberglass body bonded to a steel ladder chassis — made it a contender against more cars. This 904 was sold new to Spanish driver Juan Fernandez, who campaigned the car for just over a year, racking up an impressive record, including the first race win for a 904. After Fernandez returned the car to Porsche in 1965, the 904 was reportedly purchased by industrialist Alfred Krupp, before being brought to the US by a chemical engineer. It later passed to a Navy officer who continued the 904’s racing career, entering — and winning — autocross events. 58 years later, the car now resides in Spain, where it has continued racing and is now being offered for sale as one of the most original 904s in existence.
