Apple’s ‘Scale to Fit’ Option Hides Notch on New MacBook Pros But Brings Back Thick Bezels
Apple has announced a ‘Scale to fit below built-in camera’ option that hides the notch on the new MacBook Pros; however, it also brings back thick bezels.

Your MacBook Pro with Liquid Retina XDR display features a camera housing built into the screen bezel. If app controls or menu bar items appear blocked or hidden behind the camera housing, you can turn on “Scale to fit below built-in camera” for the app to adjust the active area of your display. This ensures the menu bar and app windows appear below the built-in camera on your Mac and are always visible.
If you turn on “Scale to fit below built-in camera” for an app and the app has menu bar items or windows that would appear behind the camera housing, all open apps or apps that share the same space appear below the camera until you quit the app using the scaled setting.

You can turn on the ‘Scale to fit below built-in camera’ option by selecting an app and pressing Command+i to bring up the Info window. Check the box to enable the feature.

Good news for notch haters! If you’ve got an app (or apps) with menus that collide with the notch, just Get Info on the app, and enable “Scale to fit below built-in camera”.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that macOS Monterey handles the new notch very well with early MacBook Pro users describing various issues with the menubar, including items that get hidden under the notch. These will likely get resolved in a software update.
