One of the most recognizable sports cars in history is getting the biggest upgrade of its life. AC Cars, the successor of the company that donated its chassis to the original Cobra, has created a modern sports car wrapped in carbon fiber bodywork that retains the lines that made the original a masterpiece. Underneath the body is an aluminum spaceframe chassis designed by Icona Design Group and Cecomp Spa specifically for the car. It carries a supercharged 5-liter Coyote V8 — a Ford powerplant like the original Cobra — that makes 654 horsepower mated to either a 10-speed auto or six-speed manual transmission. AC Cars estimates a 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of over 170 MPH. The slightly longer, wider dimensions make for a more livable supercar, with modern amenities like climate control and power windows. The AC Cobra GT is available for order now.
