Volkswagen ID.GTI Concept EV | Uncrate

Volkswagen helped create the hot hatch segment with the 1976 Golf GTI — the “I” standing for its fuel-injected inline-four engine. 47 years later, Volkswagen looks to be starting another revolution, this time with the all-electric ID.GTI concept. Introduced at the 2023 IAA Mobility show in Frankfurt, Germany, the ID.GTI concept is based on the ID.2all, another electric concept released earlier in 2023. The front-wheel-drive ID.GTI is meant to be more on the sporting side than the ID.2all and packs a suite of drive modes that emulate GTIs of the past, from sound effects to shift points. The original 1976 GTI, the 16-valve GTI Mark 2 from ’86, and the 2001 GTI Mark 4 are all included modes, and the digital gauge screen can recall gauge clusters from those vintage cars. VW didn’t give out any specs on the ID.GTI, although the ID.2all has 38kWh or 56kWh batteries and around 279 miles of range.
