The updated 2022 Lincoln Navigator is the latest new or revised player in the bustling segment of full-size, body-on-frame luxury SUVs. While styling tweaks and a host of interior improvements have been added, the headline feature is the debut of ActiveGlide, Lincoln’s version of Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving assistant.

Introduced for 2018, the current-generation Lincoln Navigator is updated for 2022 with a revised grille and new head- and taillights.

The Navigator’s slimmer LED taillight bar now features horizontal animation sequences that flash when you approach or exit the vehicle.

Power continues to come from a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission. Torque output remains 510 pound-feet, but horsepower has dropped from 450 to 440. We expect runs to 60 mph to fall in the low- to mid-five-second range.

The Navigator’s EPA combined fuel-economy estimate increases by 1 mpg to 18 or 19 mpg, depending on the model.

This big Lincoln drives better than before, thanks in part to a revised suspension that includes the addition of a camera-based system that scans the road ahead and primes the adaptive dampers for upcoming bumps.

All models can now be had with 22-inch wheels, although base models still come with 20s as standard.

The new ActiveGlide technology comes standard on upper Reserve and Black Label trims. It combines lane centering, adaptive cruise control, and driver monitoring to provide hands-free driving on roughly 130,000 miles of divided highways.

In its initial state, ActiveGlide performs well but has been programmed rather conservatively compared to other similar systems, such as GM’s Super Cruise. Lincoln says improved capabilities will be added over time via over-the-air updates.

Noteworthy interior upgrades include a new 13.2-inch center touchscreen, a 12.0-inch instrument cluster display, an optional 5.8-inch second-row touchscreen, and available 10.1-inch Amazon Fire TV–equipped monitors affixed to the front seatbacks.

The Navigator continues to come in standard- and long-wheelbase L forms, with prices ranging from $78,405 to more than $120K for a loaded Black Label L model.
