TSMC Reports Gas Contamination at Plant That Makes Chips for Apple [Report]
TSMC has reported a gas contamination at its plant that makes chips for Apple. The factory, Fab 18, is the company’s most advanced facility and makes all the latest processors for upcoming iPhones and Macs.
“Some TSMC production lines in the South Taiwan Science Park received certain gases from suppliers that are believed to be contaminated. These were quickly replaced with other gas supplies,” the company told Nikkei, adding that the contamination was discovered on Thursday night.
TSMC is conducting follow-up operations to ensure there is no issues with production quality and does not expect the incident to significantly affect operations.
Nikkei notes the contamination comes just as Apple is finalizing components and preparing to begin final assembly of its new iPhones and Macs.
