SD Card Slot on New MacBook Pro Supports UHS-II With Speeds Up to 312 MB/s

The SD card slot on the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros supports the UHS-II bus interfaces allowing for transfer speeds up to 312 MB/s.

Apple confirmed the spec to The Verge, reports deputy editor Dan Seifert.

Apple has confirmed to us that the SD card slot in the new MacBook Pro 14/16 is UHS-II (over 300Mbps). Not as forward looking as UHS-III (over 600Mbps) would be, but thank god it’s not UHS-I (about 100Mbps) .
*Note: Units are incorrect

Apple likely stuck with UHS-II because UHS-III never took off. We’re not aware of a UHS-III card available to purchase; however, the company could have helped the transition to the faster spec by equipping its new laptops with support for UHS-III.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro currently has a shipping delay of 3-4 weeks and the new 16-inch model is delayed by 4-5 weeks. Amazon is showing an availability date of October 26; however, it’s unclear how much stock the retailer will get.
