A wealthy kid has the house to himself for a week and has two cars to choose from: a Porsche 928 and a station wagon. The rest is history, along with the launch of Tom Cruise’s career as a movie star in the film Risky Business. Chosen by director Paul Brickman for the role, the 1979 Porsche 928 that Cruise famously drove in the film is going to auction at Barrett-Jackson’s first Houston event in September. The car was also the star of a documentary that covered the quest to find the five 928s that were in the film, including the hero car pictured here. The 928 was originally green before being repainted gold for the film, was painted white after shooting, and then returned to the film-correct colorway while in the seller’s private collection. As Joel, Cruise’s character in the film, says: “Porsche. There is no substitute.”
