Production of Apple AR/VR Headset Delayed Until End of 2022 [Report]

Production of Apple’s rumored AR/VR headset has been delayed until the end of 2022, according to a new report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Mass production of the headset was originally planned for the second quarter of 2022; however, Apple purportedly wants to have “complete software, ecosystem, and services” ready for the headset.

The AR/MR HMD requires much more industrial design requirements than smartphones because the comfort of wearing them involves so many design details. Therefore, we believe Apple continues to test the best industrial design solutions so far.

The key to the success of the HMD lies in the software, ecosystem, and service. We believe that Apple is positioning its HMD for various applications, not just gaming applications, so the challenge of building software/ecosystem/services is significantly higher than current products/competitors.

Kuo also said he expects Apple’s headset to lead the “next wave of user interface revolution” and change market consensus that AR/VR devices are mainly for gaming.

Recent reports have predicted that initially the new headset will rely on a wireless connection to the iPhone for advanced features. It’s also said to feature an unusually large image sensor for a headset. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more updates.
