Nick Heidfeld’s Porsche 959 S Coupe

When it debuted in 1987, the Porsche 959 was the most technologically advanced production car to touch a public road. Developed for Group B rally racing, the 959 was produced to satisfy homologation requirements to race, with only 259 examples made over a two-year run. Of those 259, only 29 were 959 Sport specification cars, boasting 64 more horsepower and no air conditioning, leveling suspension, electric windows, and rear seats to save weight. Former F1 driver Nick Heidfeld owns one of those 29 959 S models. With only 2,600 miles, the car has spent so much time in storage it required an extensive overhaul — and Porsche Classic was happy to do the work. With the 959’s extensive — and now outdated — technological features, taking the car back to Porsche for a refresh was the only option. Heidfeld plans to drive the car around 60 miles a month to keep it in peak condition.
