NASCAR is moving the technological bar for the racing series forward with the Next-Gen models, coming in 2022. The new template makes for a silhouette that more closely resembles the lines of modern cars, using a more muscular shape with unique front and rear clips for each manufacturer. Centerlock 18×12-inch wheels replace the current five-lug 15x10s, and the old solid axle rear makes way for a new independent rear suspension. The tire and suspension changes mean that teams will have a wider range of setup options focused on mechanical grip, reducing reliance on aero. Engine output is expected to remain similar to current specs, although a sequential five-speed is replacing the H-pattern. NASCAR also plans to stuff as many cameras as possible into each car, to make sure the fans at home don’t miss a moment of the action.
