2022 Jaguar F-Type Goes V-8 Only

  • Jaguar is simplifying its F-Type lineup to include only V-8 engines. The turbocharged four-cylinder and supercharged V-6 are no longer available.
  • The new base model is powered by a 444-hp supercharged V-8 while the F-Type R still uses the 575-hp version.
  • The 2022 F-Types are available to order now and will arrive next month starting at $71,050.

Jaguar is dropping the F-Type’s four- and six-cylinder engines in favor of a V-8-only lineup after giving its sports car a new look and simplified engine lineup for the previous model year. It’ll now consist of two models: a new P450 model and the R model, and they will be on sale next month. Unfortunately, the move makes the entry point for Jaguar’s sports car $8300 more expensive.

The F-Type P450 is available as a coupe or convertible with either rear- or all-wheel drive. Its supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 produces 444 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar claims that both rear- and all-wheel-drive models will reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with a 177-mph top speed. The F-Type R still uses the 575-hp supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 with all-wheel drive, and in our test it reached 60 mph in 3.5 seconds on the way to a 11.7-second quarter mile at 121 mph.

Base models are equipped with 20-inch wheels, larger rear brakes, and an active exhaust system. All-wheel-drive models, which are named R-Dynamic, have gloss black trim and unique wheels. They’re available in 11 exterior colors, and there are even more available from Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO).

The 2022 Jaguar F-Type is available to order now starting at $71,050 for the P450 Coupe with rear-wheel-drive and $81,050 for the all-wheel-drive R-Dynamic Coupe. The F-Type R’s starting price will stay the same at $104,350.
