Overview
The Porsche 718 Cayman’s joyful driving demeanor, powerful flat-four engines, and stunning design make it one of our favorite sports cars—as evidenced by its regular appearance on our annual 10Best Cars list. Sharing all but its hardtop with the convertible 718 Boxster, the Cayman is a focused performance machine. It’s not perfect, but any complaints are forgotten by the time we’ve rounded the first corner at speed. Yes, the 718 Cayman is that good.
What’s New for 2018?
The Cayman GTS model debuts for 2018 and boasts an output of 365 hp from its turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder engine. It comes standard with torque vectoring, adaptive suspension, a mechanical limited-slip differential, 20-inch wheels, and special exterior trim. The rest of the 718 Cayman lineup remains unchanged for 2018.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Cayman’s turbocharged flat-four engines are both powerful and willing performers, although they don’t offer the great sound of the previous six-cylinder versions. The base 2.0-liter engine produces 300 hp, while the S model increases those numbers to 2.5 liters and 350 hp. The new GTS ekes out an extra 15 horsepower from the 2.5-liter flat-four for a total of 365. All models come with a six-speed manual transmission, with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic available as an option. The Cayman has held a spot on our annual 10Best Cars list for more than a decade for good reason: It drives like a dream. All versions are supremely balanced sports cars that are thrilling to drive and engender confidence in the way they go, stop, and steer.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Clear gauges, comfortable seats, and well-placed controls give the Cayman’s cabin a form-fitting feel. Still, a number of cheap plastic pieces prevent the interior from standing out in its class. Buyers of the new GTS model are treated to faux-suede interior accents and embroidered GTS logos on the headrests. The Sport Chrono package—optional on Cayman and Cayman S models—is standard on the GTS. A compact front trunk complements the Cayman’s rear cargo area, providing it with cargo space that rivals the best of its class. But a steep hatch angle, means owners will need to use soft luggage to make the most of the available space. Interior storage space suffers in comparison to rivals.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Cayman’s 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is logical and easy to use. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, an eight-speaker audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio, and two USB ports. And there are a number of tech options available, such as a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, and Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto.
