Before Carroll Shelby brought the US and Europe together with the Cobra, he was winning races as a driver with Ferrari. The car he won more races in than any other is the one pictured here: a 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider, which Shelby drove to eight wins and 10 podiums over the 1956 and 1957 seasons. The legendary Juan Manuel Fangio drove the car as the works Ferrari entry at the 1956 1000 KM Buenos Aires, and it was also piloted by the likes of Phil Hill and others for a total of 11 victories and 19 podiums from 1956-1958. Saying this car has a significant racing history is an understatement, and add to the fact that it also retains its factory numbers-matching V12 engine, transmission, and Scaglietti bodywork serves to make this one of the most valuable cars in the world. The 410 Sport Spider goes to auction in August during RM Sotheby’s Monterey Car Week event.
