What We Know So Far

Overview

Previewed by a concept car at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show, the 2024 Buick Electra SUV is expected to become the American near-luxury brand’s first electric model. Although the Electra badge had been applied to big Buick sedans in the past, an electric powertrain and a crossover body would appropriately modernize the historic model name. The concept’s wild butterfly doors and curved glass roof aren’t likely to make it to production, but instead we’ll likely get something similar in size and shape to the Cadillac Lyriq or the recently-announced Chevrolet Equinox EV. Powertrain details and driving range estimates haven’t been revealed, but we hope to see two electric motors, standard all-wheel drive, and around 300 miles of range per charge.

What’s New for 2024?

Buick hasn’t confirmed that the Electra will move from concept to production, but given GM’s recent push toward electrified models and the fact that the company recently re-upped the trademark on the name, we expect to find out more info on the new SUV soon.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

If the Electra follows the Buick brand’s current trim structure, the base model will likely be the Preferred trim, with a mid-range Essence adding more luxury features, and a range-topping Avenir carrying the biggest price tag. When we find out more about the Electra and its standard and optional equipment, we’ll update this story with that information.
