While this is our first Toyota Crown in the U.S., the nameplate dates to 1955 in Japan. Replacing the Avalon, the Crown is an all-wheel-drive hybrid with either 236 horsepower or 340 horsepower, depending on the trim. And while it looks like a quasi-crossover—the roofline is 3.7 inches higher than that of a Camry—the Crown’s ground clearance is a very carlike 5.8 inches. In Hybrid Max form, Toyota claims it runs from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
