While we applaud Nissan for offering the Z with a six-speed manual transmission, the nine-speed automatic—a no-cost option—makes for a quicker car. However, we found that the Z is sensitive to octane, meaning that an automatic Z is quicker than a manual car on 91 octane, but a manual car on 93 octane is quicker than either.
