Instead of shoehorning a battery and motors into an existing vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz Generation EQ Concept makes clear their intention to build electric cars from the ground-up. This particular concept imagines an SUV coupe-style vehicle, but the underlying architecture of steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber is completely scalable, as are the battery components. The sleek styling replaces mirrors with cameras, hides the windshield wipers, and replaces the traditional grille with illuminated LED optical fibres, while the interior is similarly space-age, with touch controls replacing all traditional switches and knobs, and the 24-inch widescreen display supplanting the traditional instrument cluster and HVAC stack. Although obviously a concept, Mercedes claims this version would go from 0-62 mph in under five seconds and have a range of 310 miles.
