When Mercedes took control of AMG in 1999, the AMG badge became Mercedes’ performance brand — not necessarily the low-volume, high-performance cars AMG built its reputation on. In an effort to refocus the brand, five Black Series models were released between 2006 and 2013, with each model upgraded from its base AMG platform. All five of these cars are represented in the Black Series Collection auction on Bring a Trailer — and one even more rare special edition CLK. That would be the CLK DTM AMG coupe, built to mark Bernd Schneider’s 2003 DTM championship, available only in Europe, and outfitted with a supercharged V8, Brembo brakes, a DTM-esque body kit, and racing seats. A 2008 CLK63 AMG Black Series, C63 AMG Black Series, 2009 SL65 AMG Black Series, 2014 SLS AMG Black Series, and arguably the star of the lot, a 2021 GT Black Series AMG ONE Edition round out the collection.
