The first McLaren F1 prototypes were named Albert, after the company’s Albert Drive location in Woking, England. When McLaren began developing the Speedtail, the first road-going prototype was named Albert in honor of the F1 test mules. As one of the last of 106 Speedtails produced, this Speedtail carries the same name along with design elements from the prototype. The car spent 12 weeks being masked and painted in Magnesium Silver, the color of the first F1 displayed publicly, and Ueno Grey, the color of the F1 GTR that won Le Mans in 1995. The design itself was taken from the prototype Albert’s camouflage, which was based on airflow data during development. Albert will make its first public appearance at Sunset GT, a high-end cars and coffee event in Los Angeles.
