Hyundai brought a “Rolling Lab” concept to its N Day 2024 performance gathering, a stripped-down version of its IONIQ 5 N platform. The RN24 uses the IONIQ 5’s dual-motor EV drivetrain in an exposed roll-cage chassis with World Rally Championship-style suspension, dampers, and subframes. Drivers have access to Hyundai’s WRC car controls like acceleration sensitivity , regenerative braking sensitivity, and power balance using steering wheel controls. To combat the lack of sound inherent to EVs, the Rolling Lab uses a high-output external sound system with two side speakers along with the IONIQ 5’s Active Sound+. The rear fenders even act as a speaker box, projecting sound away from the car to the stands. Another innovative feature is Hyundai’s e-Handbrake which replaces the traditional hydraulically-actuated e-brake on ICE-powered cars.
