- General Motors will announce a few concept vehicles, including a Chevrolet plug-in-hybrid pickup, at the digital Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month, as first reported by Bloomberg Green.
- The reveals will follow a presentation on electrification by GM CEO Mary Barra.
- GM plans to have 30 electric vehicles in its lineup by 2025, which will include a Chevy electric pickup, the GMC Hummer EV, and the Cadillac Lyriq.
General Motors CEO Mary Barra will discuss the automaker’s electrification strategy and the importance of EVs during a livestream presentation at the digital Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 12, as first reported by Bloomberg. Afterward, GM is expected to also show a few concept vehicles including an electrified version of a Chevrolet pickup and electrified vehicles from its other brands.
We think the Chevy pickup concept GM will preview will be a plug-in hybrid, rather than a fully electric model. Car and Driver has reached out to Chevrolet for confirmation. Chevy has offered hybrid versions of previous Silverados, but never a plug-in hybrid model.
Chevrolet showed us sketches of an electric pickup earlier this year, which won’t necessarily be named Silverado, and said that it’ll go into production by 2025. We expect that the plug-in-hybrid model will be a Silverado. GM also placed a previously unseen pickup truck (pictured above) in the background of an investor conference last month along with the Hummer EV SUV.
The 2022 Hummer EV pickup will be GM’s first electric pickup, arriving in the fall of 2021 as a fully equipped Edition 1 model. Cheaper models, as well as the SUV, will arrive later. The pickups will go up against coming electric trucks such as theTesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Electric, and Rivian R1T—Ram is also planning an electrified pickup. GM is also expected to announce several electrified Cadillac models, which is likely to include the Lyriq, an electric crossover with a targeted 300-mile range, as well as others from Chevrolet and possibly GMC.
