Only 60 examples of the 2021 Lexus RC F Fuji Speedway edition are for sale in the U.S. this year, and exclusivity does not come cheap. The Fuji starts at $98,225, and it’s mechanically identical to the RC F Track Edition, a track-capable muscle coupe with a 472-hp 5.0-liter V-8. While it looks like a race car minus the sponsorship decals, it actually drives like a refined grand-touring coupe. But its performance isn’t a match for that of similarly priced rivals.

The RC F Fuji Speedway Edition is the track-capable model in the RC lineup. It’s based on the standard rear-drive RC F high-performance variant, with which it shares an engine and chassis. It’s named for the Toyota-owned racetrack where all of Lexus’s high-performance F models are developed.

All RC F Fujis are powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 that produces 472 horsepower at 7100 rpm and 395 pound-feet of torque at 4800 rpm.

The RC F Fuji Speedway Edition is mechanically identical to RC F Track Edition that debuted for 2020. The Fuji includes all of the Track’s upgrades, including a carbon-fiber hood, roof, and rear wing; revised adaptive dampers; carbon-ceramic brakes; a Torsen limited-slip differential; and forged BBS 19-inch alloy wheels.

While the Fuji is quick, it’s no quicker than a Chevy Camaro SS, and its skidpad grip of 0.94 g is woefully short for a track-focused car. Indeed, the Fuji is priced like a base Porsche 911 but performs about as well as a Camaro SS, which costs less than half as much.

The Fuji may be intended as a track-day weapon, but it’s over-the-road manners are well-honed. It rides comfortably, steers progressively, and loves to be flung around second-gear corners with its tail hung out.

While the Fuji looks like a race car, inside it’s a full-on luxury coupe. The interior is artfully stitched with leather and Alcantara and trimmed in red-highlighted carbon fiber. The seats and driving position are all-day comfortable.

Although the Fuji is track capable, which we proved by pushing it to its limits during our 2019 Lightning Lap event, it drives with the impressive refinement and sophisticated road manners of a well-developed grand-touring coupe.

The Fuji’s biggest challenge is its upside-down price-value relationship. With a starting price just $2325 short of a base Porsche 911’s and performance about equal to that of a Camaro SS, its numbers simply don’t add up.

Strip the Fuji of its carbon-fiber parts, and it’s a little different from the standard RC F upon which it is based—which costs $21,225 less to start.
