Apple Wants to Make Batteries for Apple Car in the US [Report]

Apple is looking to make batteries for its much rumored Apple Car in the United States, according to a new report from DigiTimes.

Apple reportedly was looking to wok with China’s two largest battery suppliers,CATL and BYD, but Apple’s insistence on using US-made batteries for Apple Car is making such partnerships seem unlikely, said the sources. None of these companies have confirmed the reports.

It’s possible that this requirement could lead to Apple working with Foxconn or TSMC on batteries. Both companies are planning to build factories in the US.

DigiTimes says Apple may want a separate supply chain for lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) from lithium-manganese-cobalt-oxide battery (MNC), which could get Taiwanese suppliers to set up factories in the US sooner.
