The original Ford GT40 put a mark on the world stage like no other American car before or since. Based on the Lola Mk 6 GT, Ford would provide the backing to turn the car into a force in endurance racing, stealing Ferrari’s thunder just before the Age of Porsche began. Just 105 GT40s were built across four generations and six years, and even fewer of those were built as road-going cars. Chassis P/1069 is one of those few, ordered by Ford USA, displayed at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show, and then used by Ford UK as a press car. Painted Metallic Borneo Green for its Geneva appearance, the car was sold to a private collector in 1971 and painted yellow. In 2007, a new owner took the car racing in historic classes, before it was restored to its road-going configuration and color. The car is now being offered for private sale, with an estimated value in the millions.
